TBT - About 4 years back and a very handsome mid 20 common from an Essex syndicate. I would turn up at the lake just before first light. Watch for showing fish and then chuck a couple of rods towards them with simple wafters + small mesh bags of boilie crumb. Didn’t always work but this day it absolutely did 😁👌

A nice Tench caught in my recent Early Spring Tench video. Link in the bio. Unbelievably snow was falling while playing this fish. We had four seasons in a one day! This time taken on @sonubaits 6mm Spicy Sausage pellets, scoulded and pressed into a flat bed feeder. Pop up fake corn, topped with a bit of red foam and 3 live red maggots. 😁

A nice mirror taken the other week on a simple but strong Slip D, featuring a Grappler Supersteel in Size 6. I needed strong reliable tackle as I was fishing snags on the far margin. It’s not unusual for me to jet off somewhere warm at this time of year in search of some exotic species like this Amazon Red Tail Catfish from Thailand. Obviously that’s not going to happen this year but that’s fine, although wouldn’t mind the temperatures climbing here a little bit! 🥶

In this video we look at fly fishing for beginners. If you're new to fly fishing or have never tried fly fishing then this one is for you! We visit the fantastic Thornwood Springs fishery and catch lots of trout including Rainbow, Brown, and Blue Trout, before ending the video with some incredible Spartic Char. I'm not an advanced fly fisherman myself, but as always I'm keen to share what I know!

We look at some of the kit needed to try this amazing form of fishing - the rod, reel, line, tackle and flies. You really don't need much stuff to have a great day out fishing for these stunning creatures.

My river carp campaign ended on this decent 20+ mirror. Short sessions and little traps were the successful method. Moving around the river in winter, often with a single Opportunist XTND rod. 45mins in each spot then move to try and locate these fish.
This mirror may not be as magnificent looking as some of the classic, dark, torpedo commons that inhabit the river, but I was very pleased to land this one, mainly because it meant I could stop! 😂 and try for a final big perch before the curtain fell.

I only go fly fishing a few times each year these days, so was very pleased to catch lots of trout yesterday. Maybe 20 fish across 4 different species of trout! Mainly caught on Buzzers and Damsels.
This is a Blue Trout, a first for me. I also had rainbows and brown trout but my day was complete when I caught a Spartic Char (which deserves its own post 😉).
Was chuffed to bits to see Dan land his first ever fly caught trout too!
If you’ve not tried fly fishing then give it a go. These things fight like crazy on light gear! You’ll love it, once you’ve come to terms with the fact that you’ll be constantly tangled up in your own line! 🤣

Feels like I’ve sacrificed a few of these over the last month or so, as an unhealthy obsession with a winter river carp took hold! Not that I care, it’s the constant dilemma of an allround angler unfortunately. Too many species and not enough time!

Maybe one more session before I bring this chapter to a close. Trying to find carp on the main river has been quite demanding. It’s been awesome, but demanding. I will heal myself on a lake somewhere soon, where it’s a bit more straightforward to locate fish. River carp video should launch Monday.

Recently I’ve had a growing urge to improve my river fishing further by getting better at trotting. Today was a beautiful day on the river and whilst we didn’t catch much I definitely got a bit better with the centrepin and enjoyed an amazing sunrise! 😍😁

Started the day yesterday targeting pike with lures, but I had chub on my mind! The rivers will be closed soon and so decided to switch it up and head to the river. A slow start but then a hectic couple of hours landing a bunch of chub and this bonus Barbel. Meat and pellet on simple low resistance rigs using the @korumfishing Camo Running Rig Clips 👌

A fat one from yesterday’s morning session. They’re starting a fatten up quite nicely! A blizzard stopped me going out as planned on Saturday. We switched to Sunday and whilst the conditions were much better the water was still freezing cold. A Squirmz fished super slow on the Ned Rig felt like an obvious choice. This fatty grabbed the lure on a long pause. I had another couple of fish but this one was the main prize. #matshotmonday

We go perch fishing on canals with lures, because flood water has hit the UK and the rivers are in a mess. Of course floodwater does affect the canal too, however, stretching my legs to discover new water gives me more options when we are hit by these consistently heavy rainfalls.
