A nice little fat one before work! So good to be out chasing these again 🙂 I decided to fish for other stuff during the bright days and high pressure last week. Not a tank but I love them all 😍. A little 2.5’ Nimble on 3g jighead got the only fish of a short session. Back in the game 😉🎣

An incredible day on the river today. Trotting maggots for Grayling. Still getting to grips with this style of fishing, this time on the centrepin. I’ve fished more rivers this year than ever before! This time I visited the River Blackwater, Hampshire in freezing cold conditions 🥶 but the trusty Ned Rig caught a bunch of fish on 5cm Squirmz. I then stepped up in size to 7cm on 5g jighead in the new Lobworm colour, and was immediately rewarded with this 35cm perch. Not a monster but nice to be catching decent perch in completely new locations and proof that these methods will work anywhere! First little session of 2022! 😁The rivers are busy and still quite high and coloured, so I decided to disappear onto a fairly unfished stretch with the pin again. A new location for me.

I had fun catching loads of small stuff on trotting maggots before something very decent took the bait. Unfortunately I lost it in the far bank snags, as I only had a 5lb hooklength. Either a big chub or a barbel I think. Nice to know there are some bigger fish around.

I kept going and was rewarded with a nice chub, again still trotting.

A very enjoyable few hours. I managed to get away from the crowds and I feel like I’m slowly getting to grips with this method, which is awesome in winter.

Hopefully I’ll have the lure rod out once the river has dropped and the crowds disperse slightly!

Something a bit different for my last session of 2021. Trotting with maggots for roach with my new Christmas centrepin on a new fairly unfished part of the river. So last week I tried something different and it paid off in fine style! More to follow on that sometime soon 😉🎥 But I still adhered to the theory that it’s all about the long pauses at this time of year!
I chose to use the heaviest @korumfishing ZT lure rod in the collection for reasons that will become apparent later. It still bent double when I hooked what I assumed was a pike, but this huge river punk hit the surface 😍
And it was a quick morning bite! So regardless of my dawn / dusk preferences it just shows that it’s always worth a try, with whatever time you’ve got available. Chuffed to bits with this one!

Had an amazing session on the river the other day. Trotting maggots using the Speci Stick through a really nice gentle glide. The bites kept coming by continually introducing little and often. Must have had over a dozen Chub, some decent ones too! Yes, cheese paste is an awesome winter chub bait, but I saw too many anglers outperform my typical ’traps’ last winter to ignore this method. Besides, there’s something special about seeing a float disappear! 😉👌

I’ve been having a great time exploring new rivers with these lures and last weekend we enjoyed stunning wintery scenes on a new stretch I’ve not fished before. The big perch managed to avoid me but I still enjoyed a few fish and being in new surroundings.

Caught a whole bunch of these whilst Grayling fishing last weekend on the river with Dan. At times it was frustrating as we were naturally after the Grayling. We were trotting and managed to get passed them by fishing heavier olivettes closer to the deck. 👍👌

Well what can I say about yesterdays Grayling session on the river with @happy_fishing_times ! So many fish landed.

Dan opened proceedings with a few cracking samples of our target species. He’s had more experience with this style of fishing and it became apparent quite quickly as I was just landing trout after trout!

A few tweaks on the rig to keep the bait running very low in the water and I started to hit the grayling. I landed about 8 of them in the end and they slowly got bigger through the afternoon. As always, I left the best til last and landed my best Grayling of the day at last knockings.

We roved around the beat, moving swims if bites dried up. It was quite cold and the cross wind was brutal at times, but that didn’t stop us having an incredible day on the river!

The method was trotting maggots using my new Infernos SL Gold reel, loaded with 4lb line. The Spec Stick float handled some of the heavy flow magnificently! No PBs on this session but we have another trip booked in a couple of weeks, can’t wait!

Felt like it was time to get the deadbait rods out this morning. First time this year. Only a short session but nice to relax in the outdoors and catch a croc or two. Back on the lures tomorrow hopefully 😉

Back out searching for the biggun’ the other day and this smaller sample smashed a Dropshot Squirlyz. It’s a lure that they seem to love to smash on the drop! Motor Oil this time but Silver Fish is catching a few too! Hope you’re enjoying your lure fishing and getting closer to the prize!! 😉👍

I know we’ve all heard someone say this before but it’s true, wouldn’t these be an incredible looking fish if they were a few lbs bigger. Imagine them Barbel sized! The metallic scales 😍 Must had caught over 30 of these last weekend whilst on the river with a float, enjoying a bit of schoolboy fishing 🙂 Trotting practise. Those grayling need to watch out.
