Who else had an amazing 16th June? Here’s mine! It didn’t go entirely to plan as the carp were spawning on arrival, so I switched things up and fished in 3 different locations. A bunch of Chub, a Barbel and a lovely little Gudgeon. Good luck for the rest of the season! 😁

Back from a fantastic family holiday yesterday afternoon, chucked the family in the house 😂 straight to the lake. Phew, they’re not spawning. Only one method for me in these conditions. About 45mins of baiting up with mixers before they were confident enough. My little Opportunist 8fter sent out a Surface Bomb. Nailed this stunning common before slipping it back and rejoining the family. Itch scratched....and breathe! 😂🎣

Not been carping much recently so was great to get out this morning. Baited 3 spots with @sonubaits pellet and corn before then moving to a different part of the lake to try to get one off the top with my little 8fter. A cricket bat common fell to bread on a megaband, then I lost a decent one further out using the Korum Surface Bomb. Things dried up on the surface, but fortunately I’d primed those 3 spots on arrival. This mirror came from the 2nd spot, the CodeRed hookbait was in the water for less than 10mins. Always have a Plan B! 😉

The Combi Feeder has transformed my Tench fishing this year. Fished on a Heli Rig in two different ways

- Keep the ends on the feeder and fill it with red maggots

OR (my favourite)

- Fish it open with worms or maggots plugged with @sonubaits Krill & Squid groundbait.

I’ve just got some more 45g Combi Feeders which I’m going to introduce into my fishing for other species too. It’s quickly becoming an essential piece of tackle for me 👌

A drop in temperatures, rain and extreme winds definitely affected the tench fishing on the 24hours session we just had. Things were tougher but it didn’t stop us getting a few nice Tincas, including a PB for Dan! Same methods again as shown in my recent video, a super consistent way to catch tench like these. Link in the bio. Very enjoyable session, definitely looking forward to summer now though!!

It kicked off big style for me yesterday on a lake thats quite new to me. It’s been quite tricky for big Tench recently but yesterday I landed 7 decent fish in an afternoon session. @korumfishing Heli Kit, worm kebab, chopped worm in the feeder plugged with @sonubaits Krill and Squid, 2mm pellets and Crushed Hemp 🙌 I fished both rods tight on an area Spombed with maggots and casters. I put in bait after every fish. This resulted in several double takes as the shoal moved in to eventually clear me out completely.

Watch for showing fish and then chuck a couple of rods towards them with simple wafters + small mesh bags of boilie crumb. Didn’t always work but this day it absolutely did 😁👌

My river carp campaign ended on this decent 20+ mirror. Short sessions and little traps were the successful method. Moving around the river in winter, often with a single Opportunist XTND rod. 45mins in each spot then move to try and locate these fish.
This mirror may not be as magnificent looking as some of the classic, dark, torpedo commons that inhabit the river, but I was very pleased to land this one, mainly because it meant I could stop! 😂 and try for a final big perch before the curtain fell.

I only go fly fishing a few times each year these days, so was very pleased to catch lots of trout yesterday. Maybe 20 fish across 4 different species of trout! Mainly caught on Buzzers and Damsels.
This is a Blue Trout, a first for me. I also had rainbows and brown trout but my day was complete when I caught a Spartic Char (which deserves its own post 😉).
Was chuffed to bits to see Dan land his first ever fly caught trout too!
If you’ve not tried fly fishing then give it a go. These things fight like crazy on light gear! You’ll love it, once you’ve come to terms with the fact that you’ll be constantly tangled up in your own line! 🤣

Typically I like to fish for Perch, Chub, Pike, Barbel and all sorts of other species but the river carp got into my head and fortunately we get a few bites.

My very last fish of the river season yesterday. I actually had a cracking perch first thing that I’ll share on here soon, but for now this perfect little chub can steal the limelight 😁

Feels like I’ve sacrificed a few of these over the last month or so, as an unhealthy obsession with a winter river carp took hold! Not that I care, it’s the constant dilemma of an allround angler unfortunately. Too many species and not enough time!

So here’s one from a while back that you would definitely recognise again. A lovely split tail 3lber caught dropshotting well into dusk.

Maybe one more session before I bring this chapter to a close. Trying to find carp on the main river has been quite demanding. It’s been awesome, but demanding. I will heal myself on a lake somewhere soon, where it’s a bit more straightforward to locate fish. River carp video should launch Monday.
