Lure Fishing in Greece!

End of summer and it’s time for the family holiday. Little did they know I’d packed my little travel rod for a bit of Lure fishing in Greece! The perfect crime!

Most of the holiday was sent with the family eating, drinking and sunbathing. But a couple of morning I managed to sneak out before anyone was awake. On the first trip I managed the most beautiful perch I’ve ever caught… although some of you might know it better as a Serranus Scriba, or Painted Comber.

The travel rod I used was the Street Fighter Light Shad Travel Rod – a 7.2ft, four-piece 20g rod that fits neatly into a suitcase – perfect for those little holiday missions.

I gave the bass a proper go but just couldn’t track them down. With time short, I switched to ultralight finesse fishing around the rocks and had loads of fun getting bites on small creature and worm-style lures.

Lots of bites on Tiny bits of iSome worm fishing on a jigheads 1g – 5g depending on the water and amount of wind coming off the sea.

I started to get into a few different species, but it was the Painted Comber that was most obliging and they really are a magnificent looking fish. Like our perch, but covered with striking colours!

As the morning heated up it was time to call it a day. It may have only been 11am but I was on holiday and so a cold beer seemed the way forward after a nice little lure session 🙂

If you’ve never been, I can’t recommend Greece enough. The people are lovely, the food’s amazing and an ice-cold beer in the warm sunshine is hard to beat. ☀️ Oh … and if you do go on holiday there, sneak in a rod to do a bit of lure fishing in Greece!
