A nice Tinca caught whilst filming for @korumfishing a couple of weeks back. The video launched on their YouTube channel last night. It includes plenty of nice Tench and some tips on how to avoid the nuisance fish.

TBF … as a young gun maybe 30years ago! Doing my best to get amongst the carp of the well known Waveney Valley Lakes, Norfolk.

I used to move around the complex from lake to lake. C Lake wasn’t the easiest on the complex but it’s where I caught some of the better fish during my time there, including this mid 20 mirror. I had 3 x 20s that day, quite an achievement at the time. I would regularly go for a whole week and loved it there. Good times.

Not sure why I’m wearing a shirt! I think I might have even had after shave on … you know, for the ladies 😉😂

So our Tench adventures are well underway. Hopping from venue to venue trying to catch a few Tincas!

We’re definitely getting amongst them on venues new and old, but it feels like we’re just warming up. I think we’ll step up a gear once those nighttime temps are consistently in or near double figures.

Keep an eye out for some video projects I’ve been involved in for @korumfishing and @sonubaits_specimen which will be launched on their channels at some point soon. A slight delay posting to my YT channel because of this, but I’m now on a mission to find a biggun … and I have a couple of venues in mind so watch this space!

I never actually posted my final session on the river before it closed. Naturally it involved getting up incredibly early and hitting the motorway to drive up to the Ouse to meet fellow river fishing nut job Dan @happy_fishing_times 🤪😁🎣

The conditions were great. And we were the only anglers for what seemed like miles …. Perfect 👌

We moved around a bit trotting maggots and after some roach I hooked into a really decent, hard fighting Chub. A lovely, chunky fish, and on the float too 😉

We covered miles and really loved the adventure of exploring new stretches but struggled to match that early fish.

A completely different area and the final hours on the river season saw me chucking lures, of course 😁

I had a few perch on the ever reliable Floatex👌as the sun went down on another river season.

Since then I’ve been mixing things up on the lakes and canals. 😉

A lovely day fly fishing on the stunning River Test yesterday. A thick frost thawed quickly into beautiful sunshine. I remember the one and only Keith Arthur once saying .. ‘if in doubt, put on a Damsel’ and yesterday that worked a treat with some stunning brownies landed. Chalkstream heaven 😁

The drop in temps had me reaching for the lure rod. I was trying to find the Perch on a 200acre lake but struggled ☹️ I did, however, land a few nice Pike as I wandered around this rather vast water.

A few days later and I found the Perch … on a canal some distance away 😂😂👍

Love the shape of this canal cracker! Nice and plump 😁 On the canal for a quick lunch hour session today. Been to see my mum 😘 and stopped on the canal on the way home.

Started with little cranks but quickly moved to the Ned as I had a feeling they weren’t chasing. 7.5cm Squirmz in the Lobworm colour got an almost immediate result on the pause 🙌

Won’t be fishing this weekend as in the New Forest with the family so nice to get my fix before I leave!!!!

Over the weekend I realised that I hadn’t caught a carp since the summer of last year! So, I decided on an early morning raid yesterday morning.

I fished @sonubaits Code Red boilies, tipped with an NS1 Yellow pop up by @ccmooreuk. Only a little mesh bag of crumbed boilie for a bit of additional attraction.

I managed to avoid the bigger fish this time, but it was an absolute delight to relax with a big smile on my face knowing that Spring has definitely arrived 🙂🌼

I had a window of just a couple of hours yesterday. Somehow I managed to co-ordinate this with the worst weather we’ve had all week! The Glide rod and a pouch of maggots have simply taken the rivers apart this winter. Keep an eye out for my video that drops on Wednesday. The results have been outstanding. A net full of lovely little river fish followed by this bruiser. Trotting maggots under a 5g Speci Stick on a size 14 hook, 6lb line. Now where’s that lure rod!!! 😁 Good luck for the final few days 👍🙌

Hope you had a great weekend! Time is ticking on our rivers and my local stretches are still in a bit of a mess! So when the opportunity came up to venture onto some clearer water, I grabbed it!

There’s something quite special about river fish, and none more so than the jewels that can be found in this particular stretch.

I’ve worked really hard to improve with the float on the river this winter and at times I’ve felt like I’m going backwards not forwards! But every so often things do come together and when they do the rewards are so sweet!

Hoping these are not my last fish of the river season, but if they are then what beautiful fish to finish on 😍

Perch fishing in winter can be tough, but at the moment it’s extremely challenging indeed. Generally speaking I feel our best chances of success in winter is to fish our lures very slowly. Therefore, in this video I wanted to explore 3 ways we can fish slow with lures for big perch. The 3 techniques include The Ned Rig, The Dropshot and Hard baits (such as Crankbaits or Jerkbaits).

We go through the 3 different methods, looking at lures, tackle and how best to retrieve these lures for success in cold water conditions.

Really put the miles in over the last two days. Exploring new spots for Perch on the Ouse and the Thames. Caught small perch and pike but failed to locate my intended target. Yesterday, however, I got this rather nice consolation prize. A nice Chub from the Thames on a creature bait.

Most of the water was low and clear but this particular spot was pushing through and with some colour in it. So I opted for a dark creature to create a silhouette, a 10g Cheb to quickly get down through the flow and the Clickers to create some noise. These are my ‘go to’ tactics for pacey water that has colour.

As soon as the fish hit the lure I knew it wasn’t a pike by the head shakes. Visions of the perch of my dreams were flying through my head! It tried to do me in the edge, as they always do before it rolled into the net.

A cracking fish, from a new location. A couple of days of social fishing with @mark_austin_angler @perch_addicts_anonymous @happy_fishing_times and a few more of the lads. What’s not to like. Well done chaps. Good company and lots of laughs. Today is about the cinema and then a restaurant with the family. Mainly looking forward to sitting down! 🤣

PERCH MASTERS - EXTRA BITS. AVOID OIL BASED SCENT with @woodzzz_korum that was cut from episode 3. Over the last few years I’ve been using various oils to boost my inert lures right through winter, which Mat thinks is a mistake. He explains that these types of scent are not very effective in low water temperatures, and recommends some alternatives. I’ve now switched things up to see for myself if it makes a difference. My tour of UK rivers continues! 😂 The other weekend I had a session on yet another new river. A cracking session trotting with my new @korumfishing Glide and centrepin for Chub on the River Wey in beautiful countryside. The fishing wasn’t easy but we caught a few. Steve provided great company and great food! He’s a chef, so that worked out well for me! 😂😁
A few of the rivers fished this season - Lea, Stort, Itchen, GUC, Thames, Colne, Ouse, Frome, Blackwater, Wey, Kennet and Test. I’ve kinda got my eye on the Loddon too! Quite an adventure 😁🎣

A fine chunk from a new section of canal yesterday. It was a cold start with a thick frost, so I was surprised to find the fish really quite active on arrival at first light. I started on the Ned Rig due to the temperatures but couldn’t ignore the bait fish that were being smashed by predators. Of course, it could have been pike but I had some fine wire traces with me and decided to fish up in the water. I tried suspended Jerks and Cranks amongst the scattering bait fish. I had a senior wasp within a few casts. Then it was shortly followed by this awesome Sargent!

One of those sessions where they didn’t read the rule book on a freezing cold day! I observed, adapted and was kindly rewarded. Back in the saddle. Session cut short, but fortunately I’d already taken my prize!

A nice little fat one before work! So good to be out chasing these again 🙂 I decided to fish for other stuff during the bright days and high pressure last week. Not a tank but I love them all 😍. A little 2.5’ Nimble on 3g jighead got the only fish of a short session. Back in the game 😉🎣
