He wasn’t my intended target but still chuffed to catch old black eye from the river last week 🖤😁 Watched him waddle into the swim, push a decent Barbel out the way and suck in the hookbait. My 10ft Opportunist XTND bent double!!! Incredible to watch in clear water.

I was doing a string of short sessions on the river before work. Fortunately I managed to return for the Barbel the next day 😉

We discuss tips, rigs and tactics after locating some really decent Barbel on an intimate little stretch of water.

Rolling meat is a great method for searching out Barbel and Chub. It enables you to check out lots of different spots which increases your chances of finding these very special fish. In the video I had to change my methods once I’d found the fish to successfully start putting a few fish on the bank!

A very stripey one! Perch in my local river arn’t always this vivid! A welcome surprise when I nipped out on the river yesterday to catch Chub on cranks. Might have to come back to this new spot in Winter as I got hit in the margins by a much bigger perch 😬😉

A day in the sunshine when the Crucians went crazy! Two of them tipped over the 3lb mark, including this lovely bar of gold. This was the session that can be seen on the @sonubaits YouTube channel. It was supposed to be a Tench session! Fortunately some of those turned up too. 😁👍☀️

So yesterday I decided to mainly mess about with my Glide rod to bag as many river species as possible! The other goal for the day was to travel light and explore as many new stretches of river in the Hampshire / Dorset area and I found some gems that I’m sure will come good later in the season 😉
I was supposed to be out all day today but to be honest the 20k steps and heat from yesterday has left me completely battered!! 🤣☀️I think I’ll chill today but my mind is bubbling with ideas for the season ahead!!

NOW LIVE! I caught this stunning Tinca a few weeks back whilst filming a new video for @sonubaits_specimen that’s now LIVE on the @sonubaits YouTube channel. I caught some nice Tench during the session, which was gatecrashed by a bunch of Crucians, some of which went over the magic 3lb mark. 😁🎣

All fish taken on flatbed feeders, with ever faithful Krill & Squid groundbait, 2mm Krill pellets, Krill hemp with 8mm Bandum Wafters or Pellet-Os as hookbaits.

This was the biggest Bream caught for my most recent video. At 9lb 2oz it wasn’t as big as the double I caught by accident at Walthamstow, but it was caught by design on balanced tackle so was pretty pleased 😁

A few weeks earlier and these fish might have been doubles and in better condition as they had almost certainly spawned quite recently. Something I’ve made a note of for next year.

A bunch of big slabs were caught using heli rigged maggots, 6lb Smokeshield hooklength, size 14 Xpert Specialist hooks and Combi Feeders loaded with @sonubaits Krill & Squid.

TBF … as a young gun maybe 30years ago! Doing my best to get amongst the carp of the well known Waveney Valley Lakes, Norfolk.

I used to move around the complex from lake to lake. C Lake wasn’t the easiest on the complex but it’s where I caught some of the better fish during my time there, including this mid 20 mirror. I had 3 x 20s that day, quite an achievement at the time. I would regularly go for a whole week and loved it there. Good times.

Not sure why I’m wearing a shirt! I think I might have even had after shave on … you know, for the ladies 😉😂

We’re definitely getting amongst them on venues new and old, but it feels like we’re just warming up. I think we’ll step up a gear once those nighttime temps are consistently in or near double figures.

A slight delay posting to my YT channel because of this, but I’m now on a mission to find a biggun … and I have a couple of venues in mind so watch this space!

I never actually posted my final session on the river before it closed. Naturally it involved getting up incredibly early and hitting the motorway to drive up to the Ouse to meet fellow river fishing nut job Dan @happy_fishing_times 🤪😁🎣

The conditions were great. And we were the only anglers for what seemed like miles …. Perfect 👌

We moved around a bit trotting maggots and after some roach I hooked into a really decent, hard fighting Chub. A lovely, chunky fish, and on the float too 😉

We covered miles and really loved the adventure of exploring new stretches but struggled to match that early fish.

A completely different area and the final hours on the river season saw me chucking lures, of course 😁

I had a few perch on the ever reliable Floatex👌as the sun went down on another river season.

Since then I’ve been mixing things up on the lakes and canals. 😉

A lovely day fly fishing on the stunning River Test yesterday. A thick frost thawed quickly into beautiful sunshine. I remember the one and only Keith Arthur once saying .. ‘if in doubt, put on a Damsel’ and yesterday that worked a treat with some stunning brownies landed. Chalkstream heaven 😁

The drop in temps had me reaching for the lure rod. I was trying to find the Perch on a 200acre lake but struggled ☹️ I did, however, land a few nice Pike as I wandered around this rather vast water.

A few days later and I found the Perch … on a canal some distance away 😂😂👍

Love the shape of this canal cracker! Nice and plump 😁 On the canal for a quick lunch hour session today. Been to see my mum 😘 and stopped on the canal on the way home.

Started with little cranks but quickly moved to the Ned as I had a feeling they weren’t chasing. 7.5cm Squirmz in the Lobworm colour got an almost immediate result on the pause 🙌

Won’t be fishing this weekend as in the New Forest with the family so nice to get my fix before I leave!!!!
