TBT - About 4 years back and a very handsome mid 20 common from an Essex syndicate. I would turn up at the lake just before first light. Watch for showing fish and then chuck a couple of rods towards them with simple wafters + small mesh bags of boilie crumb. Didn’t always work but this day it absolutely did 😁👌

A nice Tench caught in my recent Early Spring Tench video. Link in the bio. Unbelievably snow was falling while playing this fish. We had four seasons in a one day! This time taken on @sonubaits 6mm Spicy Sausage pellets, scoulded and pressed into a flat bed feeder. Pop up fake corn, topped with a bit of red foam and 3 live red maggots. 😁

My river carp campaign ended on this decent 20+ mirror. Short sessions and little traps were the successful method. Moving around the river in winter, often with a single Opportunist XTND rod. 45mins in each spot then move to try and locate these fish.
This mirror may not be as magnificent looking as some of the classic, dark, torpedo commons that inhabit the river, but I was very pleased to land this one, mainly because it meant I could stop! 😂 and try for a final big perch before the curtain fell.

I only go fly fishing a few times each year these days, so was very pleased to catch lots of trout yesterday. Maybe 20 fish across 4 different species of trout! Mainly caught on Buzzers and Damsels.
This is a Blue Trout, a first for me. I also had rainbows and brown trout but my day was complete when I caught a Spartic Char (which deserves its own post 😉).
Was chuffed to bits to see Dan land his first ever fly caught trout too!
If you’ve not tried fly fishing then give it a go. These things fight like crazy on light gear! You’ll love it, once you’ve come to terms with the fact that you’ll be constantly tangled up in your own line! 🤣

Started the day yesterday targeting pike with lures, but I had chub on my mind! The rivers will be closed soon and so decided to switch it up and head to the river. A fat one from yesterday’s morning session. They’re starting a fatten up quite nicely! A blizzard stopped me going out as planned on Saturday. We switched to Sunday and whilst the conditions were much better the water was still freezing cold. A Squirmz fished super slow on the Ned Rig felt like an obvious choice. This fatty grabbed the lure on a long pause. I had another couple of fish but this one was the main prize. #matshotmonday

So not my biggest of 2020 by a fair margin but my last Perch of the year. It’s been a struggle with local rivers in a mess, some local venues completely closed due to COVID and not allowed to travel far from home. Managed to get out for a few hours today. The fishing was tough, there’s a lot of coloured water around. Unfortunately the perch didn’t turn up but this chub absolutely smashed a Squirmz that was being placed in a few likely looking areas. Nice to be on the bank in the sunshine! 😁
