I headed out recently on a mission for a big croc with the pike fishing lure legend that is Thom Hunt. We team up again, but this time with bigger lures and high hopes as we head out reservoir pike fishing!

I was mainly working my way through the Zander Pro Shads Ultra UV. This stunning pike was taken on the more natural Dark Oil colour and we were fishing lures of 14 – 16cm.

Of course, Thom was off the mark quickly landing several nice sized pike on his 16cm Westin lures. It was immediately obvious that the pike were quite active!

To my surprise, my first fish was a fairly modest sized perch that absolutely smashed a 14cm Zander Pro Shad in Dark Oil, quite a large lure for a perch of this size!

I then landed a pike that wasn’t quite a double, so I slipped it straight back without a pic. Thom very shortly followed this up with a larger pike.

We continued to catch plenty of pike, in fact eight of them through the afternoon.

Eventually I did manage to get through to a better pike which hit my lure right under the boat! Immediately I knew it was a decent one as it battled hard in the deep water.

Last winter I went on a mission for a big pike from the river and whilst this wasn’t from the river it certainly has whet my appetite for another crocodile hunt! This certainly made a change from swearing at jacks while perch fishing!!! 😆
I very much enjoyed my reservoir pike fishing. We also caught a few nice perch, so vowed to return with the perch fishing gear to see what we can find!
